The Deluxe Editions of Alison Moyet’s first four albums, Alf, Raindancing, Hoodoo and Essex (released by BMG on 25th November 2016) have received much critical approval.
Classic Pop Magazine gave the reissues 6 out 6 stars, Gay Times and Attitude both awarded them 5 out 5 and Scunthorpe Telegraph 10 out of 10.
Attitude Magazine commented “The singer-songwriter’s back catalogue has never sounded better” before concluding “Each album in the set is a 2-disc jobby with an abundance of remixes, rarities, demos and live cuts housed in casebound books, making them an absolute must for Alf-ettes.”
Keighley News said of the four Deluxe edition “How they shimmer and shine. With some new versions of old favourites, live and previously unreleased material complementing the original LPs, these are an absolute must for any fan of carefully crafted pop classics. The extensive sleevenotes feature new interviews with Alison, curator notes, lyrics and rare photographs. There’s soul and passion in abundance, and Moyet’s voice stands the test of time. It is both deep and meaningful, making here back catalogue nothing short of a national treasure.”
God Is In The TV noted that “Quite simply, Alison Moyet has only ever only cared about the future” before praising the reissues “All of these albums come beautifully packaged, hard-backed with informative booklets and bonus discs featuring non-album single releases, extended mixes, demos and live versions. It’s a comprehensive collection and conclusive proof of why Alison Moyet has long been regarded as something of a national treasure. These albums are not always perfect, but in Hoodoo, at least, she created one bona fide masterpiece.”
Alf Deluxe was praised by German blog Neon Ghosts as having “Timeless pieces that can still make you goose bumps.”
They went on to praise Raindancing Deluxe: “The Casebound Book double CD is completely new and contains a lot of bonus material: B-Sides, 12 “-Mixes and previously unpublished tracks. Great for fans: the considerable booklets with interesting liner notes and interviews as well as the lyrics and rare photos.”
hoodoo_cover-hiAnother German blog dreamoutloudmagazin have praised Hoodoo: “Hoodoo by Alison Moyet is now released again in a delicate Deluxe Edition. The 1991 album sounds surprisingly fresh. Stylistically, this is not fixed. There is everything from soul to gospel and blues to rock and pop. Alison Moyet can sing everything with her expressive voice. Too bad that the record was so time. Perhaps this is reason enough to rediscover the album. The feel is by the way outstanding. The second CD with the bonus material completes the story very nicely.”
“Moyet fans will be beside themselves with these four reissues. The content, packaging and sound are all fantastic…” declared Gay Times Magazine in their 5 out of 5 review.
More praise for the Deluxe edition of Alf came from music magazine Reflections of Darkness: “As for the album, the treatment of the songs has definitely improved the sound and has given them a certain depth that is much enjoyable. And adding the rare and previously unreleased tracks, turns Alf into a hopeful collection of sweet gifts for the long-lasting fans that will find the music a confirmation of why they liked ALISON MOYET´s work on the first place. With extended versions in ‘Love Resurrection’, ‘Invisible’, ‘For You Only’, and ‘Don´t Burn Down The Bridge’, enhancing remixes in ‘All Cried Out’, ‘Love Resurrection’, and ‘Invisible’, live recordings of ‘The Knife’, and ‘That Ole Devil Called Love’, new versions of ‘For You Only’, and ‘That Ole Devil Called Love’, and new tracks like ‘Baby I do’, ‘Hitch Hike’, and ‘Don´t Burn Down The Bridge’, all of these only previously available on Vinyl, the re-release of ‘Alf’, the first solo album of an incredible singer, proves why it was quadruple platinum #1 album in 1984 and why 32 years later we still find it delightful and amusing to listen.”
Louder Than War named Alison as “a national treasure” and concluded their enthusiastic review with “a wondrous voice, Alison Moyet is a national treasure and one that should be present in everyone music collection with these four re-issues giving a valid excuse.”
